About open-chat-lab

open-chat-lab is a small, open playground for experimenting with the free-tier models hosted on OpenRouter. It exists because trying out a new model shouldn’t require a credit card or a 5-minute signup flow.

Stack

• Next.js 14 (App Router) on Vercel Edge runtime.
• Vercel KV (Redis) for sessions, accounts, and conversation history.
• OpenRouter as the model provider, restricted to :free tags.

Limits

Free models are rate-limited upstream by OpenRouter. We forward those limits as-is. If you see a 429, give it a minute. The app is hosted on Vercel’s Hobby tier, so heavy abuse will hit a quota wall before it hits anything else.

Privacy

Conversation contents are stored in Vercel KV under your account, with a 30-day TTL. We don’t train on your prompts. We don’t have anything to train. You can delete a conversation at any time from the sidebar.
